Claims to be with US treasury and threatens some kind of enforcement Does not call me by name which is suspicious when calling about a federal case against me- Ive also never been to florida lol- A obvious scam of some kind Just received one as well but it is for a free Touchpad Tablet and the promotion is not sponsored by or affiliated with Android, but they are a major supplier of the software- And if I reply in hours will receive a restaurant gift certificate- In smaller print it does state that you need to attend a minute appointment to learn about a fun & easy way to book cheap family travel- Think it is like those time share things you hear about, but not sure- Thinking about calling just to see what they have to say and ask how they got my information- Certain that it is a hoax or that you will need to buy something in order to receive anything free Phantom Debt Collectors From India Harass Americans, Demand Money By BRIAN ROSS (@brianross) , CINDY GALLI and MATTHEW MOSK (@mattmosk) June , Hundreds of thousands of cash-strapped Americans have been targeted by abusive debt collectors operating out of overseas call centers suspected of links to organized crime in India, law enforcement officials told ABC News-The calls are part of a massive scam, one that appears to target struggling Americans , especially those who have gone online to apply for payday loans- Armed with personal information from those pilfered applications, the threatening callers, who claim to be debt collectors poised to initiate legal action, have managed to pry loose millions of dollars from their victims , even when the victims never owed money in the first place-"This is what we call a phantom debt collection scam," said Jon Leibowitz, the chairman of the Federal Trade Commission- "It's a very pernicious and innovative new fraud-"Working through call centers in India, the commission estimates that the criminals have dialed at least - million calls, persuading already cash-strapped victims to send them more than million- Some have reported receiving dozens of calls per hour- They are victims like Cindy Gervais, of New Orleans, who went online for a quick loan when her husband's car was hit by a driver who didn't have insurance-Even though she paid the loan off, the so-called "phantom" debt collectors with Indian accents began calling to say she still owed money-He more or less told me that if I didn't pay, they were going to have someone on my doorstep to arrest me," she told ABC News- "And that they were going to contact my place of business, and tell them what kind of person I am-"At first, she said she resisted- Then the calls became more frequent, and started to ring on her cell phone, and at the grocery distribution company where she had worked for years-"I was more or less was in panic mode because he told me there would be someone before noon at my place of business to arrest me and take me to jail," she said tearfully- "So I agreed to pay him-"After receiving scores of complaints, investigators with the FTC said they began tracking the calls, and following the payments- They alleged the payments led them to a California company run by an Indian-American named Kirit Patel, and that such scams would not be possible without American front men-"I would say that all roads of this scam, or many of the roads of this scam, lead back to Mr- Patel," said the FTC's Leibowitz-ABC News tracked Patel for weeks, from the suburbs of San Francisco to Austin, Texas-Patel refused to talk- But his lawyer, Mark Ellis, said he believes it is far too early to pass judgment on his client- Ellis, a Sacramento-based attorney, told ABC News that Patel was hired for a nominal fee to set up an American shell company, and had no idea what the call centers in India were doing-"I can tell you, he was as snookered by the people in India as anybody," Ellis said- "He's a -year-old man who is nearing his retirement who thought all he had to do was set up some corporations and everything was on the up and up- He's completely dismayed that he has become the lightning rod of this entire problem-"A close friend of Patel's also defended him in a brief interview at his home, saying Patel was not trying to defraud anyone , he was just an unwitting, bit player in a larger scheme-"If Mr- Patel was just a cog in the wheel he seems to have been a pretty big cog," Leibowitz said- "It is clear that Patel was integrally involved with this scam-"Leibowitz points to thousands of pages of financial and phone records gathered by the FTC and filed as part of a civil case brought against him in the U-S- District Court in Sacramento last month- When FTC lawyers sought to freeze his assets and prevent his business from continuing to operate, Patel responded by invoking his rights against self-incrimination- His lawyer told ABC News he has had to be careful in how he responds to the allegations in civil court "because there is a potential criminal action," but that Patel maintains the allegations against him are false-Federal investigators said the phantom debt collection operation that allegedly benefitted from Patel's assistance was one of several that all trace back to the same small town in Western India called Ahmedabad- Callers use technology to make it appear that the calls originate inside the U-S- Victims provided ABC News with recordings of dozens of the calls, and many of the thickly accented callers appear to be reading off a script-"Subpoenas have been readied, and Monday morning you're going to be picked up from your home," one caller says on a victim's voicemail- "And you have children- Don't worry about your children- We have a childcare department to take care of the children-""You will be behind bars for six months," said another caller- "And once you go behind bars, you will lose your job- Once you are behind the bars, you won't get a single drop of water-"William Peerce Howard, a Tampa attorney who represents victims of harassment from debt collectors, said it takes an especially twisted criminal to use threats and coercion to pry money from someone who is already struggling financially"These guys really are the most visible villains in America today," he said- "They make a living scaring people-"Mark Merola, of Florida, said he just panicked when the caller told him he might be arrested at the deli where he works in a Florida retirement community-"I was nervous- I didn't want to embarrass myself, my family," he said- He used his debit card to pay the collector -Afterwards, he says he realized "how stupid I was-" "It just happened so fast," he said- "I got scared-" Leibowitz said he hopes with more attention, future potential targets of the scam will recognize red flags before they turn over any money-If callers say they are from the police, consumers should know that law enforcement officers do not collect debt for private parties- If the caller is speaking with a thick Indian accent, but calls themselves by a names such as Office, that should be a tip off- And if they're calling times in two hours, that's another red flag- "Legitimate debt collectors, legitimate pay day lenders don't do those sorts of things," he said-Merola said he would like to see anyone involved in the scam prosecuted aggressively-"There's no place in society for these people," he said- abcnews-go-com Blotter phantom-debt-co , &page Calls once or twice per day- They leave empty voicemails- They don't speak back when called back- Sometimes they don't even answer when I call-The Do-Not-Call Registry doesn't even block these- Both my house phone and cellphone are on it, and ever since I registered my numbers on the registry, more telemarketers, and whatnot, call more than before I registered my numbers Repeated calls & when their # was called back a person answered claiming they were only a call center & that I had to give her the number that was called so she could look up who made the call through them, fishy business I too am getting calls from people telling me I am calling them repeatedly and I am not- My number is the same as their's but my area code is different- The company is Grant Funding Services and it is a scam- Have you had any luck getting this problem resolved? The lady who used to call me is Sona from career point solutions, newyork, NYI have been getting phone calls from this number also but I use my cell phone number so I can block any unwanted call- Otherwise I take my smoke detector and hit the test button for calls on my land line I know they are calling back to try to get into my computer- They claim to be from WIndows Service Center and tell you your computer is not working correctly- DO NOT give them access- It's a SCAM; I think from India by the accents Finally figured this out- You must have something to do with Capital One, probably a credit card- There is a change in the federal laws regarding credit cards and they are calling you about that- Apparently they have to contact every customer and until you've talked to someone at Capital One these calls will continue; call customer service at , or go to wwww-capitalone-com- I complained to Customer Service about the calls from , how I don't answer from people I don't know, etc Got a call from , at PM all they was play music, tried to call back and got the same thing just music- My number has been registered times do not call list- Tried to file a complaint and Federal Trade Commission says my number is not registered, will deal with them in the AMJamaican people calling u can't understand anything they say at least I can't anyway and what person would pick Jamaicans to call with a thick accent like that I would rather get some trees n puff w the rastas lol This was given to me as a fax number and althoug it might be nothing else with the company is legit, the company name is unitedbroadcast and they hav a bunch of numers that you can't talk to anyine at- this is rediculous they shoud really just get a regular job and stop scamming peoplecalled me saying his name was Andre and wanted to meet me to offer opportunities for business leads- He would not elaborate and said he from the Jewish Directory www-jewishmarketingsolutions-com Did not sound very legit to me They also call from something called "National Service Center", using the number, accusing anybody they call of bank fraud- Which is stupid, since bank fraud would be a crime- Debt collectors would have nothing to do iwth it- This is a total debt scamming operation- Ignore them and block their calls Caller with Indian accent called and said I had recieved a payday loan from fast cash in the amount of in November of - He said he needed to read me a affidavit stating they were charging me with fraud, theft by taking, one other charge- Could barely understand the accent very thick Indian accent- Then when I stated I had never had a payday loan he said the authorities would be serving me with papers, if I didn't pay today they would come to my house with the legal documents- When I asked what day was the cash deposited into my account, he couldn't give me an answer- I told him I would go to my bank and check if there was a deposit made in that amount- I told him I had no knowledge of the deposit being made to my account- He told me not to yell at him or he would hang up- I told him I wasn't yell I was just stating that if there was a deposit I wasn't aware of it- He then hung up on me- I went directly to the bank and spoke with a bank officer she looked up my account for Sept-, Oct-, Nov-, Dec- of and - There was no deposit, She then took the phone number and called it- She tried to get information from them about where they were calling from and what exactly their company did- They hung up on her four times and didn't answer any questions- She stated that she thought this was a fraudulent company and to report it as fraud I got a call from this number, and the scam artist was pretending to be from the US treasury- I recognized his Indian accent, and when challenged him, he started cursing me in Hindi (an Indian language)- Only when I started retaliating in Hindi, then he hung up on me- Do not answer this call when you see this number on your caller IDYup, I got the same message back in May- I was not able to take credit cards back then, but now that I can, I texted her back and seemed fishy that she still needed a cake afte all this time, strange that she wants the same thing each time, not sure how this is even a scam, but it's too fishy- I am based in Vegas too- Maybe she's just another cake decorator in town trying to find out what we all charge LOLThey called my cell phone twice in a row and hung up without leaving a message both times- I called the number back (ha, from a different phone number) and it is some junk mail automated cruise ship offer "You've won a FREE CRUISE Now, just pay us some money so we can give you your FREE CRUISE" Don't bother to answer your phone if they call youcalled , :pm, called again sep , :amwhen i answered the second time, i didnt say anything, it wasn't until i said "hello" that the recording started "your business may be eligible for a substantial loan"This is on my old phone number that is forwarded to my new phone- I know AT&T has this old personal number on a few of our contracts at work- The only other way someone might think I'm a business is if I ever put the number on the whois of my domain names I also called the number after they called me times in min- If you press so you can get on the no-call list and enter your number it won't stop the bad calls- It is like responding to an unknown e-mail, now they know the number is good and they will sell it to other scammers- I had something like this happen to me about a year ago- They would call at all hours and most of the time no one would be there- The LAST TIME they called I answered the phone "State Police, What is your emergency? They scammed me about some course and after paying the amount they stopped answering the calls and now that no. The goal is to feel better from the inside out – to realize your inner core is spiritual, therefore, good. “Jesus loves you…” Remember the words of another song, “This little light of mine, I’m going to let it shine…”?
That is the task of each of us, to realize our unique gifts, the light we bring to others.
There is a repeated refrain that says: You say I should stay with you that Jesus forgives you. The difference is Jesus loves you, I don’t Blunt verbiage. If you are open to seeing your faults you have a good shot at changing them. These affirmation needs may be in the way of continual compliments, being liked by everybody under the sun, empty sexual conquests, being the center of attention always at a gathering, etc…
I will never forget the time when a man in therapy with me said, “Thanks, John, I didn’t know what I didn’t know.” This person was open to knowing things about himself that he was not conscious of. It is important to know what are our strengths and weaknesses. INNER RESOURCEFULNESS: Some people need constant OUTSIDE reinforcement as to their value as a human being.
